Soccer at Housy in 1973
Back in 1973, Soccer was really a new sport at Housatonic
Valley Regional High School -- so much so that the White Oak for that year noted
that
This year was the first year that there was an official
girl's soccer team as a recognized interscholastic sport.
The boys' sport was a bit more established, playing a schedule
of ten games that year in the Northwest Conference.

Results: The team managed just one win in 1973,
winning one of their two matches against Lewis Mills. They were
unsuccessful twice each against Canton, Northwestern,
Farmington, and Avon. |

Steig, Sally Michalek, Noriko Toto, Amanda MacNeil, Elyse Harson,
Maryanne Schaeffer, Donna Marchi, Nancy O'Loughlin
Results: The team produced six wins out of eight
contests, quite commendable for a first-year varsity sport.
Playing entirely against private schools, they defeated Simon's Rock
(twice), Westover (twice), Kent, split with Berkshire, and were defeated
by Ethel Walker |
